在留カードは、次の各号のいずれかに該当する場合には、その効力を失う。
The residence card ceases to be effective in cases that fall under any of the following items:
在留カードの交付を受けた中長期在留者が中長期在留者でなくなつたとき。
when the mid- to long-term resident who was issued with a residence card is no longer a mid- to long-term resident;
在留カードの有効期間が満了したとき。
when the validity period of the residence card has expired;
在留カードの交付を受けた中長期在留者（第二十六条第一項の規定により再入国の許可を受けている者を除く。）が、第二十五条第一項の規定により、出国する出入国港において、入国審査官から出国の確認を受けたとき。
when the mid- to long-term resident who was issued with a residence card (except for persons who have been granted re-entry permission pursuant to the provisions of Article 26, paragraph (1)) has received confirmation of departure from an immigration inspector at the port of entry or departure from which they are to depart pursuant to the provisions of Article 25, paragraph (1);
when the mid- to long-term resident who was issued with a residence card and has been granted re-entry permission pursuant to the provisions of Article 26, paragraph (1) departed from Japan, and did not re-enter Japan within the validity period of the re-entry permission;
在留カードの交付を受けた中長期在留者が新たな在留カードの交付を受けたとき。
when the mid- to long-term resident who was issued with a residence card has been issued with a new residence card; or
在留カードの交付を受けた中長期在留者が死亡したとき。
when the mid- to long-term resident who was issued with a residence card has died.
