The provision of Article 33, paragraph (2) of the Penal Code as amended by the provision of Article 2 (referred to as the "new Penal Code" in the following Article) applies to any period during which a person who has been sentenced is outside Japan on or after the effective date of the provisions set forth in Article 1, item (i) of the Supplementary Provisions (referred to as the "item (i) effective date" in paragraph (1) of the following Article).
