The short version: there is no login, so no personal information is collected. The server keeps ordinary request logs, and analytics and cookies may be used in future to see how the site is used. Nothing collected here is ever sold.

There are no accounts
This site has no login, no sign-up, no newsletter, no contact form and no comments. It never asks for your name, email address, phone number or any other way of reaching you, and it never receives one.
There is therefore no personal information here to hold, and none is held.

Server records
Being a website, it receives requests. The URL asked for, the time, the referring page, the browser type and — to the extent the connection requires it — the IP address may be recorded. These are used to serve the site, to find faults and to deal with abusive load. They are not used to identify anyone.
They are kept only as long as operating the site requires, and then discarded.

Analytics and cookies
Analytics may be added to understand how the site is used: which pages are read, which laws people look for, where they give up. That is aggregate information about the site, not about a person.
Doing that may involve cookies or equivalent technology. Refusing cookies in your browser will not stop the site working.
If analytics are added, this page will name the provider. Where things stand right now is set out in the last clause below.

Nothing is shared
Data collected here is not sold, rented or traded, and is not passed to anyone else except where the law requires disclosure.
The site links out — to e-Gov, to the Ministry of Justice's translation database, and elsewhere. What those sites do is governed by their own policies.

What you look up
Which law someone is reading can say a great deal about their situation. This site cannot tie a search to an account, because there are no accounts, and it does not deliberately store search terms as such.
What your browser remembers — your theme, for instance — stays on your device and is not sent anywhere. The language you read in is part of the URL (/en or /ja), so it reaches the server like any other request.

Changes to this policy
If any of this changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it.

Where things stand today
As of the date on this page the site is not yet public and no analytics are in place. This clause will be rewritten when that changes.
