Supplementary Provisions, Article 9

第九条

To apply Article 71-5, paragraph (1) and Article 85, paragraph (7) of the New Act, person who, at the time Article 4 comes into force, holds an S-MVL as referred to in the Former Act which is deemed to be an M-MVL pursuant to Article 6 of the Supplementary Provisions, or a person who, at the time Article 4 comes into force, holds an M-MVL and is deemed to have passed a driver's license test for an M-MVL pursuant to the following Article is deemed to be person holding an S-MVL.

第四条の規定の施行の際現に附則第六条の規定により中型免許とみなされる旧法普通免許を受けている者及び次条の規定により中型免許に係る運転免許試験に合格した者とみなされて中型免許を受けた者は、新法第七十一条の五第一項及び第八十五条第七項の規定の適用については、普通免許を受けた者とみなす。

中型免許（ちゅうがためんきょ）
The mid-sized motor vehicle license (中型自動車免許) of Article 84, paragraph (3) of the Road Traffic Act as amended by Article 4 of Act No. 90 of 2004, as Article 6, paragraph (1) of that Act's supplementary provisions (附則) names it in saying which license held under the earlier wording is deemed to be which license under the new one; a standard motor vehicle license (普通自動車免許) held under the earlier wording is in most cases deemed to be a mid-sized motor vehicle license limited to vehicles corresponding to the earlier standard motor vehicle.

旧法普通免許（きゅうほうふつうめんきょ）
The standard motor vehicle license (普通自動車免許) of Article 84, paragraph (3) of the Road Traffic Act as it stood before Article 4 of Act No. 90 of 2004 amended it, which Article 6, paragraph (1) of that Act's supplementary provisions (附則) deems to be a mid-sized motor vehicle license (中型免許) limited to vehicles corresponding to the earlier standard motor vehicle, or, in the cases items (iii) and (ix) to (xi) of that paragraph list, a standard motor vehicle license (普通免許) with a corresponding limitation.
