Supplementary Provisions, Article 2Transitional Measures

①A person who, at the time the provisions set forth in item (i) of the preceding Article come into effect, is residing with the status of residence set forth in the left-hand column of Appended Table I (5) of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act prior to its amendment by the provisions set forth in item (i) of the preceding Article (hereinafter referred to as the "former Act") (hereinafter referred to as the "former status of residence") as a person who engages in any of the activities set forth in the following items among the activities prescribed in Article 25 or 26 of the Act on Special Districts for Structural Reform (Act No. 189 of 2002) prior to its amendment by the provisions of Article 7 of the Supplementary Provisions (hereinafter referred to as the "Former Special Districts Act"), is deemed to be a person residing with the status of residence set forth in the left-hand column of Appended Table I (5) of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act as amended by the provisions set forth in item (i) of that Article (hereinafter referred to as the "new Act") (hereinafter referred to as the "new status of residence") as a person who engages in the activities specified in the respective items. In this case, the activities in which a person may engage under the new status of residence are the activities in which the person was able to engage under the former status of residence, and the period of stay accompanying the new status of residence is the period until the day corresponding to the day on which the period of stay accompanying the former status of residence expires.

②If, at the time the provisions set forth in item (i) of the preceding Article come into effect, a person residing with a former status of residence has been granted the permission under Article 19, paragraph (2) of the Former Act, that permission is deemed to be the permission under Article 19, paragraph (2) of the New Act granted with regard to the new status of residence that is deemed pursuant to the provisions of the preceding paragraph.
