The rank specified by Cabinet Order prescribed in Article 7-3, paragraph (1), item (iv) of the Supplementary Provisions of the Act is police inspector for a police officer, Imperial Guard inspector for an Imperial Guard officer, fire captain for a fire official, and deputy chief for a full-time fire brigade member.

The persons specified by Cabinet Order prescribed in Article 7-3, paragraph (1), item (iv) of the Supplementary Provisions of the Act are persons who fall under any of the following items:
法附則第七条の三第一項第四号に規定する政令で定める者は、次の各号のいずれかに該当する者とする。
Among persons who were a police officer or Imperial Guard officer, or a fire official or full-time fire brigade member (limited to those holding a rank at or below the rank prescribed in the preceding paragraph; hereinafter referred to as an "employee of a specified rank" in this item and the following item) and who, for reasons not attributable to them, successively became an employee other than an employee of a specified rank (meaning an employee prescribed in Article 2, paragraph (1), item (i) of the Local Public Officers, etc. Mutual Aid Association Act, and including a person who is deemed to be such an employee under the provisions of that Act and to whom the provisions of that Act apply) and then became an employee of a specified rank again, and who have come to fall under all of the items of Article 8 of the Supplementary Provisions of the Act or have lost status as an insured person, a person for whom the period obtained by adding together the periods before and after as an employee of a specified rank is 20 years or more;
a person who, on the day on which the person became, through promotion, a police officer, Imperial Guard officer, fire official or full-time fire brigade member other than an employee of a specified rank, has come to fall under all of the items of Article 8 of the Supplementary Provisions of the Act or has lost status as an insured person, and who would have continuously served as an employee of a specified rank for 20 years or more up to that day if that promotion had not occurred.
