Section 13 Periodic Payment for Life
The law as Act Partially Amending the Civil Code, etc. (Act No. 45 of 2026) leaves it, with the words it changes marked.

Contracts for periodic payment for life become effective when one of the parties promises to pay monies or deliver other things to the other party or a third party periodically until the death of the first party, the other party or the third party.
終身定期金契約は、当事者の一方が、自己、相手方又は第三者の死亡に至るまで、定期に金銭その他の物を相手方又は第三者に給付することを約することによって、その効力を生ずる。
Periodic payment for life is calculated on a daily basis.
終身定期金は、日割りで計算する。
If the obligor in a periodic payment for life has received the principal for the periodic payment for life but fails to pay the periodic payment for life or fails to perform other obligations, the other party may demand the return of the principal. In these cases, the other party must return to the obligor of the periodic payment for life the amount of the periodic payment for life already received, after deducting the amount of the interest on that principal.
終身定期金債務者が終身定期金の元本を受領した場合において、その終身定期金の給付を怠り、又はその他の義務を履行しないときは、相手方は、元本の返還を請求することができる。この場合において、相手方は、既に受け取った終身定期金の中からその元本の利息を控除した残額を終身定期金債務者に返還しなければならない。
The provisions of the preceding paragraph do not preclude claims for compensation for damage.
前項の規定は、損害賠償の請求を妨げない。
The provisions of Article 533 apply mutatis mutandis to cases referred to in the preceding Article.
第五百三十三条の規定は、前条の場合について準用する。
If a death provided for in Article 689 occurs due to grounds attributable to the obligor in a periodic payment for life, the court may, at the request of the obligee in the periodic payment for life or the obligee's heirs, pronounce that the periodic payment for life claim continues for a reasonable period of time.
終身定期金債務者の責めに帰すべき事由によって第六百八十九条に規定する死亡が生じたときは、裁判所は、終身定期金債権者又はその相続人の請求により、終身定期金債権が相当の期間存続することを宣告することができる。
The provisions of the preceding paragraph do not preclude the exercise of the rights provided in Article 691.
前項の規定は、第六百九十一条の権利の行使を妨げない。
The provisions of this Section apply mutatis mutandis to bequests of periodic payment for life.
この節の規定は、終身定期金の遺贈について準用する。
