The National Pension Act as it stood before Article 1 of the Act Partially Amending the National Pension Act, etc. (Act No. 34 of 1985) amended it.
第一号被保険者
A category 1 insured person as Article 7, paragraph (1), item (i) of the National Pension Act defines one, including here persons insured under Article 5, paragraph (1) of that Act's supplementary provisions (附則), Article 11, paragraph (1) of those of Act No. 95 of 1994, Article 23, paragraph (1) of those of Act No. 104 of 2004 and Article 40, paragraph (1) of those of Act No. 74 of 2025, and persons insured under the former Act (旧法).
平成二十四年一元化法
Short name for the Act Partially Amending the Employees' Pension Insurance Act, etc. to Unify, etc. the Employees' Pension Systems (Act No. 63 of 2012), the 2012 Act to unify the employees' pension systems (被用者年金制度).
In Article 6-2 and the provisions after it, the fiscal year that includes 1 April of the year in question; Article 6-2 counts a person's income from the amounts on which that fiscal year's prefectural inhabitant tax (道府県民税) is assessed.
A mutual aid association (共済組合) as Article 3, paragraph (2) of the National Pension Act defines it: one organised under an Act (法律).
第三号被保険者
A category 3 insured person as Article 7, paragraph (1), item (iii) of the National Pension Act defines one: a dependent spouse (被扶養配偶者) of a category 2 insured person (第二号被保険者) — one who mainly lives on that person's income and lives in Japan or is treated as based there — aged 20 to 59.

Short name for the Act Partially Amending the National Pension Act, etc. (Act No. 104 of 2004).
平成十三年統合法
Short name for Act No. 101 of 2001, the 2001 Act that abolished the law on the mutual aid association for employees of agricultural, forestry and fishery organisations and other laws, to integrate that association's system into Employees' Pension Insurance (厚生年金保険).
組合員
A member of a mutual aid association (共済組合) as provided in Article 3, paragraph (2) of the National Pension Act.
旧保険料免除期間
A premium exemption period (保険料免除期間) as defined in Article 5, paragraph (4) of the former Act (旧法), the National Pension Act as it stood before Article 1 of Act No. 34 of 1985 amended it.

Together, the pension benefits under the national public officers', local public officers' and private school personnel mutual aid Acts as they stood before Act No. 63 of 2012 (平成二十四年一元化法) amended them, as Article 37, paragraph (1), Article 61, paragraph (1) and Article 79 of that Act's supplementary provisions (附則) refer to them.

控除対象扶養親族
A dependent aged 16 or over; a dependent living outside Japan counts only if aged 16 to 29 or 70 or over, or aged 30 to 69 and studying abroad, disabled, or receiving at least 380,000 yen that year from the resident for living or education costs.
特定年齢扶養親族
In Article 5-4 and the provisions after it, a dependent (扶養親族) under the Income Tax Act aged 30 or over and under 70, who counts toward the income limit only if also a claimable dependent (控除対象扶養親族).
保険料等
Premiums and similar payments as Article 109-11, paragraph (1) of the National Pension Act defines them: premiums and other money collected under that Act, repayments of pension benefits paid in error and similar items a Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Order (厚生労働省令) names, whose receipt the Japan Pension Service (日本年金機構) can be made to handle.
The National Public Officers Mutual Aid Association Act as it stood before Article 2 of Act No. 63 of 2012 (平成二十四年一元化法) amended it, as kept in force by Article 36, paragraph (1), (3) or (5) or Article 37, paragraph (1) of that Act's supplementary provisions (附則), including where Article 48-2 of the Private School Personnel Mutual Aid Association Act applies them.

特定保険料
A specified premium as provided in Article 9-4-3, paragraph (1) of the supplementary provisions (附則) of the National Pension Act: a premium a person may pay, with approval and until the specified premium payment deadline (特定保険料納付期限日), for months of a specified period (特定期間) that are not premium-paid time, within the limits of age and time that article sets.
In Article 15, the mutual aid associations (共済組合) — or, for an association belonging to the Federation of National Public Service Personnel Mutual Aid Associations (国家公務員共済組合連合会) or the National Federation of Mutual Aid Associations for Municipal Personnel (全国市町村職員共済組合連合会), that federation — and the Promotion and Mutual Aid Corporation for Private Schools of Japan (日本私立学校振興・共済事業団), to which the payment of basic pensions paid by mutual aid associations (共済払いの基礎年金) may be entrusted.

平成二十六年改正法
Short name for Act No. 64 of 2014, the 2014 Act partially amending the National Pension Act and other laws to improve the running of the government-run pension programmes (政府管掌年金事業) and related programmes.

特定受給者
A specified recipient as provided in Article 9-4-4 of the supplementary provisions (附則) of the National Pension Act: a person who, on the date part of Act No. 63 of 2013 came into effect, was receiving an old-age basic pension (老齢基礎年金) or old-age benefits under the Employees' Pension Insurance Act (厚生年金保険法に基づく老齢給付等) counting as premium-paid a period that a later correction of the records made a time-barred inconsistent period (時効消滅不整合期間), including one whose benefits are wholly suspended.
法附則第九条の四の四に規定する特定受給者

特定扶養親族等
A specified dependent (特定扶養親族) under the Income Tax Act, or a claimable dependent (控除対象扶養親族) under 19; for each one, Article 5-4 raises the income limit by 630,000 yen.

第二号被保険者
A category 2 insured person as Article 7, paragraph (1), item (ii) of the National Pension Act defines one: a person insured under Employees' Pension Insurance (厚生年金保険).
The rate, worked out each fiscal year for the government and each implementing body (実施機関), by which the amount subject to premium and contribution calculation (保険料・拠出金算定対象額) is multiplied under Article 94-3, paragraph (1) of the National Pension Act to give its basic pension contribution (基礎年金拠出金): its counts of category 2 and category 3 insured persons (第二号被保険者, 第三号被保険者), divided by the total of those counts for all bodies plus the months of premiums paid by category 1 insured persons (第一号被保険者), with partly exempted months weighted.
In Article 11-5, the investment income (運用収入) of the basic pension account (基礎年金勘定) of the Pension Special Account (年金特別会計) for the fiscal year — the part arising from transfers from its national pension and employees' pension accounts and from contributions the mutual aid associations, etc. paid — multiplied by a mutual aid association's contribution apportionment rate (拠出金按分率); it is deducted from any shortfall in its basic pension contribution (基礎年金拠出金) payments.
年金事務所
A pension office (年金事務所) as provided in Article 29 of the Japan Pension Organization Act: an office the Japan Pension Service (日本年金機構) sets up where needed to handle part of the work of its branch offices, with an eye to the convenience of insured persons, employers and beneficiaries.

An employee of the Japan Pension Service (日本年金機構) appointed under Article 109-11, paragraph (2) of the National Pension Act to receive the premiums and other money that paragraph (1) of that Article lets the Service receive.
特例支給開始年齢
In Article 12-3, the age, set by date of birth, that the tables in Article 8-2 of the supplementary provisions (附則) of the Employees' Pension Insurance Act put in place of age 60 for the old-age employees' pension (老齢厚生年金) paid before 65 under Article 8 of those provisions.
In Articles 12-3 and 12-4, the day on which a person made the claim under Article 9-2-2, paragraph (1) of the supplementary provisions (附則) of the National Pension Act for early payment of part of the old-age basic pension (老齢基礎年金).
For a person who has been insured in two or more of the insured categories (被保険者の種別) of Employees' Pension Insurance (厚生年金保険), the time they were insured in one of those categories, as Article 78-22 of the Employees' Pension Insurance Act uses the phrase.
Old-age benefits, etc. under the Employees' Pension Insurance Act as Article 9-4-4 of the supplementary provisions (附則) of the National Pension Act uses the term, including here, for a specified recipient (特定受給者), the occupational add-on amounts (職域加算額) paid for retirement under the national and local public officers' mutual aid Acts as they stood before Act No. 63 of 2012, and the retirement benefits in Article 78, paragraph (3) of that Act's supplementary provisions.

立替納付事務
In Article 6-14, the work of advancing and paying insured persons' premiums on their behalf as a designated proxy payer (指定代理納付者) under Article 92-2-2, paragraph (1) of the National Pension Act.
Premium payment services as Article 92-3, paragraph (1) of the National Pension Act provides: handling the payment of premiums for insured persons who entrust it, here as done by a National Pension Fund (国民年金基金).

In Article 11-13, paragraph (1), items (ii) and (iii), a receiving employee (収納職員) of the Japan Pension Service (日本年金機構) who is also appointed as a collection officer (徴収職員) under Article 109-6, paragraph (2) of the National Pension Act.
The rate by which an old-age basic pension paid early (支給の繰上げ) is reduced: 4/1000 for each month from the month in which early payment was claimed to the month before the month the person turns 65.

特定期間
A specified period as provided in Article 9-4-2, paragraph (2) of the supplementary provisions (附則) of the National Pension Act: a time-barred inconsistent period (時効消滅不整合期間) that a person has reported to the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, which from the day of the report is treated as time for which premiums did not have to be paid under the student rule of Article 90-3, paragraph (1) of that Act.
