The user of a motor vehicle (excluding a special small motor vehicle; the same applies hereinafter in this paragraph, Article 49, paragraph (1) and Article 54, paragraph (4)) must inspect the motor vehicles listed in the following items, for each period set forth in the relevant item, in accordance with the technical standards prescribed by Order of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism according to the time of inspection and the type, use, etc. of the motor vehicle:
motor vehicles used for motor vehicle transport business, private-use motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of eight tons or more, and other private-use motor vehicles specified by Order of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism: three months;
private-use motor vehicles used for private passenger transport for compensation prescribed in Article 78, item (ii) of the Road Transportation Act (excluding those specified by Order of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism), private-use motor vehicles lent for compensation as a business with the permission under Article 80, paragraph (1) of that Act, and other private-use motor vehicles specified by Order of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (excluding the private-use motor vehicles listed in the preceding item): six months;
道路運送法第七十八条第二号に規定する自家用有償旅客運送の用に供する自家用自動車（国土交通省令で定めるものを除く。）、同法第八十条第一項の許可を受けて業として有償で貸し渡す自家用自動車その他の国土交通省令で定める自家用自動車（前号に掲げる自家用自動車を除く。） 六月
motor vehicles other than those listed in the preceding two items: one year.
The provisions of paragraph (3) of the preceding Article apply mutatis mutandis to the case referred to in the preceding paragraph. In this case, the phrase "the preceding two paragraphs" in paragraph (3) of that Article is deemed to be replaced with "the preceding paragraph".
