When a person recorded in the basic resident register of a municipality has moved out or died, or any other reason has arisen for removing that person from the record of the basic resident register of that municipality, the mayor of the municipality must delete the certificate of residence of that person (or, where a certificate of residence by household unit had been prepared for the household to which that person belonged, all or part of that certificate of residence).
市町村長は、その市町村の住民基本台帳に記録されている者が転出をし、又は死亡したときその他その者についてその市町村の住民基本台帳の記録から除くべき事由が生じたときは、その者の住民票（その者が属していた世帯について世帯を単位とする住民票が作成されていた場合にあつては、その住民票の全部又は一部）を消除しなければならない。
