Chapter I General Rules
第一章 通則
第一条（趣旨）
Beyond what is provided for in other laws and regulations, procedure in civil litigation is governed by the provisions of this Code.
民事訴訟に関する手続については、他の法令に定めるもののほか、この法律の定めるところによる。
Article 2Responsibilities of the Courts and the Parties
第二条（裁判所及び当事者の責務）
The courts must endeavor to ensure that civil litigation is conducted fairly and expeditiously, and the parties must conduct litigation in good faith.
裁判所は、民事訴訟が公正かつ迅速に行われるように努め、当事者は、信義に従い誠実に民事訴訟を追行しなければならない。
Article 3Rules of the Supreme Court
第三条（最高裁判所規則）
Beyond what is provided for in this Code, the Rules of the Supreme Court provide for the necessary particulars concerning procedure in civil litigation.
この法律に定めるもののほか、民事訴訟に関する手続に関し必要な事項は、最高裁判所規則で定める。
