A marriage becomes valid when an application to register the marriage is filed pursuant to the Family Register Act (Act No. 224 of 1947).
婚姻は、戸籍法（昭和二十二年法律第二百二十四号）の定めるところにより届け出ることによって、その効力を生ずる。
The application referred to in the preceding paragraph must be filed using a paper document bearing the signatures of both parties and no fewer than two adult witnesses, or must be filed orally by these persons.
前項の届出は、当事者双方及び成年の証人二人以上が署名した書面で、又はこれらの者から口頭で、しなければならない。
