Minimum Wage Act
最低賃金法
Every term this law . Its definitions bind only this law — each entry says where the definition applies and links to the sentence that settles it. 36 terms: 8 with the Ministry of Justice's English, 28 in our translation, marked as such.
賃金
Everything an employer pays a worker in return for work, whatever it is called: wages, salary, allowances or bonuses.
労働基準法第十一条に規定する賃金
労働者
A worker as defined in Article 9 of the Labor Standards Act (a person employed at a business or office and paid wages, whatever the kind of job), except a person employed at a business or office that employs only relatives living in the same household, and a domestic worker.

最低賃金審議会
The Central Minimum Wages Council (中央最低賃金審議会) or a Regional Minimum Wages Council (地方最低賃金審議会), which the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare or the Director of a Prefectural Labor Bureau must ask to study the matter and give its opinion before deciding the regional minimum wage for each region.
使用者
An employer as defined in Article 10 of the Labor Standards Act: the business owner, a person who manages the business, and anyone else who acts on the owner's behalf in matters concerning the business's workers.

特定最低賃金
A minimum wage for a particular business or occupation that applies to the workers or employers in it, which people representing all or some of those workers or employers can ask the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare or the Director of a Prefectural Labor Bureau to decide, revise or abolish.
最低賃金額
The amount of wages that a minimum wage sets, which is fixed per hour (for mariners, per hour, day, week or month).

船員
A mariner to whom the Mariners Act (船員法) applies; Article 6, paragraph (2), Section 2 of Chapter II (on regional minimum wages) and Articles 16 and 17 of this Act do not apply to mariners.
Act No. 64 of 1969 itself, the Act now titled the Vocational Abilities Development Promotion Act, whose supplementary provisions these are and whose main provisions come into effect on 1 October 1969.

A minimum wage set for each region, which must be decided for every region of Japan so as to guarantee a minimum level of wages for low-paid workers.

The Council of Transport Policy (交通政策審議会), or a council set up in a District Transport Bureau (地方運輸局) that a Cabinet Order (政令) designates, which the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism or the Director of a District Transport Bureau consults before deciding a specified minimum wage for mariners.

新機関
A national or other public body listed in the right-hand column of the table in Article 2 of the supplementary provisions of Act No. 26 of 2008, such as the Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency (観光庁長官), the Japan Transport Safety Board (運輸安全委員会) or the Central Labor Relations Commission (中央労働委員会), which is treated as having made the approvals, designations and other acts of the former body (旧機関) it replaces in that table.
旧機関
A national government body listed in the middle column of the table in Article 2 of the supplementary provisions of Act No. 26 of 2008, such as the Aircraft and Railway Accidents Investigation Commission (航空・鉄道事故調査委員会), the Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency (海難審判庁) or the Central Mariners' Labor Relations Commission (船員中央労働委員会), whose approvals, designations and other acts made before that Act comes into effect count afterwards as made by the body the table puts in its place.
派遣中の労働者
A worker employed by one business owner and dispatched to work at another business owner's business, who is not employed by that other owner, as defined in Article 44, paragraph (1) of the Act on Ensuring the Proper Operation of Worker Dispatching Services and Protecting Dispatched Workers (leaving out those employed at a business that employs only relatives living in the same household, and domestic workers).
In the supplementary provisions of Act No. 25 of 1984, the heads of the branch offices and other local offices of a District Maritime Bureau (海運局) or of the Maritime Supervision Department (海運監理部), as they were before that Act comes into effect.
In the supplementary provisions of Act No. 25 of 1984, the heads of the maritime branch offices (海運支局) and other local offices of a District Transport Bureau (地方運輸局) or of the Maritime Supervision Department (海運監理部), which take over from the branch office heads (支局長等) that were there before that Act comes into effect.
