Commissioner of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency

The head of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency (中小企業庁), which the Act for Establishment of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency (中小企業庁設置法) sets up as an external agency (外局) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry — an agency attached to the Ministry, with a head of its own (Article 2). Among the Agency's work is making transactions involving small and medium-sized enterprises fair (Article 4, paragraph (1), item (iv)); it may look into whether a small or medium-sized enterprise's business is being obstructed by another business's unreasonable restraint of trade or unfair trade practices, report what it finds to the Fair Trade Commission (公正取引委員会) and ask it to take appropriate measures (Article 4, paragraph (7)).
