Elementary school must have a school principal, vice principal, teachers, yogo teachers, and administrative staff.
小学校には、校長、教頭、教諭、養護教諭及び事務職員を置かなければならない。
Elementary schools may have a deputy principal, senior teacher, advanced skill teacher, chief teacher, diet and nutrition teacher, and other necessary staff, beyond what is provided for in the preceding paragraph.
小学校には、前項に規定するもののほか、副校長、主幹教諭、指導教諭、主務教諭、栄養教諭その他必要な職員を置くことができる。
Notwithstanding the provision of paragraph (1), it may not be necessary to have a vice principal when staffed with a deputy principal or when there are other special circumstances, a teacher when there is a chief teacher (excluding one placed pursuant to the provisions of paragraph (20) (limited to the part pertaining to item (ii))), a yogo teacher if there is a senior teacher or chief teacher taking charge of protective care, or administrative staff if there are special circumstances.
The school principal is to take charge of school duties, and supervise staff members.

The advanced skill teacher is to take charge of education for pupils, and give necessary guidance and advice to staff members including teachers, for the improvement and enhancement of educational guidance.
指導教諭は、児童の教育をつかさどり、並びに教諭その他の職員に対して、教育指導の改善及び充実のために必要な指導及び助言を行う。
The chief teacher is to take charge of education for pupils, and, under orders, perform comprehensive coordination among teachers and other staff regarding the educational activities of the relevant elementary school.
主務教諭は、児童の教育をつかさどり、及び命を受けて当該小学校の教育活動に関し教諭その他の職員間における総合的な調整を行う。
Teachers are to take charge of education forpupils.
教諭は、児童の教育をつかさどる。
Yogo teachers are to take charge of protective care for pupils.
養護教諭は、児童の養護をつかさどる。
Diet and nutrition teachers are to take charge of guidance and management of nutrition for pupils.
栄養教諭は、児童の栄養の指導及び管理をつかさどる。
Administrative staff is to take charge of clerical work.
事務職員は、事務をつかさどる。
Assistant teachers are to assist teachers with their duties.
助教諭は、教諭の職務を助ける。
Lecturers are to engage in duties equivalent to those of teachers or assistant teachers.
講師は、教諭又は助教諭に準ずる職務に従事する。
Assistant yogo teachers are to assist yogo teachers with their duties.
養護助教諭は、養護教諭の職務を助ける。
In case of special circumstances, assistant teachers or lecturers may be positioned in place of teachers, and assistant yogo teachers in place of yogo teachers, notwithstanding the provision of paragraph (1).
特別の事情のあるときは、第一項の規定にかかわらず、教諭に代えて助教諭又は講師を、養護教諭に代えて養護助教諭を置くことができる。
When it is found necessary in light of the actual circumstances of the school, the following staff may be positioned, notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs (9) and (11):
a senior teacher who aids the school principal (in elementary schools with a deputy principal, the school principal and deputy principal) and vice principal, organizes a part of school duties under their orders, and takes charge of the protective care or nutritional guidance and nutritional management of elementary school children;
校長（副校長を置く小学校にあつては、校長及び副校長）及び教頭を助け、命を受けて校務の一部を整理し、並びに児童の養護又は栄養の指導及び管理をつかさどる主幹教諭
a chief teacher who takes charge of protective care or nutritional guidance and nutritional management for pupils, and, under orders, performs comprehensive coordination among teachers and other staff regarding the educational activities of the relevant elementary school.
児童の養護又は栄養の指導及び管理をつかさどり、並びに命を受けて当該小学校の教育活動に関し教諭その他の職員間における総合的な調整を行う主務教諭
