Register of medical practitioners

医籍(いせき)

The register of physicians kept at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, which records the date of each registration, any reprimand, suspension or revocation of a licence, and the other matters of each physician's licence (Medical Practitioners' Act, Article 5). A physician's licence is granted by entering in it a person who has passed the national medical examination, on their application, and the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare then issues a licence certificate (医師免許証) (Article 6, paragraphs (1) and (2)). The completion of clinical training, and of any re-education training the Minister ordered — including one ordered for a person seeking a licence again — is also entered in it on the application of the person who completed it (Article 16-6, paragraph (1), and Article 7-2, paragraph (2)).
