Article 17Affairs of Municipalities in the Case Where an Application Is Deemed to Be an Application under Article 16, Paragraph (1) of the Supplementary Provisions of the Amending Act, etc.

①Where a prospective mid- to long-term resident makes an application under Article 3, paragraph (1) or Article 7, paragraph (1) of the former Alien Registration Act during the period from one month before the date of enforcement of the amending Act (hereinafter referred to as the "effective date of the amending Act") to the day before the effective date of the amending Act (excluding the case where the alien registration certificate relating to that application is issued), the mayor of a municipality is to make copies of the passport submitted by that prospective mid- to long-term resident and of the written application for alien registration relating to the application under Article 3, paragraph (1) of the former Alien Registration Act or the written application for issuance of an alien registration certificate relating to the application under Article 7, paragraph (1) of the former Alien Registration Act, and send those copies and one of the two photographs submitted by that prospective mid- to long-term resident to the Minister of Justice.

②Where, after an application prescribed in the preceding paragraph has been made, the prospective mid- to long-term resident who made that application makes an application under Article 8, paragraph (1) or (2) of the former Alien Registration Act, the mayor of a municipality is to make a copy of the written application for registration of changes relating to that application and send that copy to the Minister of Justice.

③Where, after an application prescribed in paragraph (1) has been made, the mayor of a municipality has made a registration under Article 10, paragraph (1) of the former Alien Registration Act, the mayor is to notify the Minister of Justice to that effect.
