The period of validity of the special permanent resident certificate will, depending on how the special permanent resident who is to be issued with it is classified in accordance with the items below, be the period until the date specified in the relevant item is reached.
特別永住者証明書の有効期間は、その交付を受ける特別永住者に係る次の各号に掲げる区分に応じ、当該各号に定める日が経過するまでの期間とする。
a person who is under 18 years of age on the date of the notification or application concerning the special permanent resident certificate: the fifth birthday after the date of the notification or application (if the birthday of the relevant special permanent resident is February 29, the birthday of the relevant special permanent resident in a year other than a leap year is deemed to be February 28; the same applies hereinafter) (if an application is made under Article 12, paragraph (1) or paragraph (2), the fifth birthday after the date of expiry of the period of validity of the special permanent resident certificate that the person who made the application held at that time (hereinafter referred to as the "old certificate" in this Article) (or, if the date of expiry of the period of validity of the old certificate falls on or after the person's 18th birthday, the tenth birthday after the date of expiry of the period of validity of the old certificate));
a person other than those listed in the preceding item: the tenth birthday after the date of the notification or application concerning the special permanent resident certificate (if an application is made under Article 12, paragraph (1) or paragraph (2), the tenth birthday after the date of expiry of the period of validity of the old certificate).
