The court may, when it is necessary, order the defendant to appear at or to be accompanied to a designated place. When the defendant disobeys the order without a justifiable reason, the court may subpoena said person to appear at that place. In this case, calculation of the time period prescribed in Article 59 begins from the time when the defendant is brought to said place.
Ministry of Justice translation with a slip corrected by this site — not the Ministry's text; the Ministry printed: "The court may, when it is necessary, order the accused to appear at or to be accompanied to a designated place. When the accused disobeys the order without a justifiable reason, the court may subpoena said person to appear at that place. In this case, calculation of the time period prescribed in Article 59 begins from the time when the accused is brought to said place." — https://www.japaneselawtranslation.go.jp/en/laws/view/3739/tb
