**第一項**  この法律は、銀行の業務の公共性にかんがみ、信用を維持し、預金者等の保護を確保するとともに金融の円滑を図るため、銀行の業務の健全かつ適切な運営を期し、もつて国民経済の健全な発展に資することを目的とする。

The purpose of this Act is to preserve the credibility of a bank's services in view of their public nature; to achieve the sound and appropriate management of a bank's services in order to ensure protection for depositors and facilitate the smooth functioning of financial services; and to thereby contribute to the sound development of the national economy.

**第二項**  この法律の運用に当たつては、銀行の業務の運営についての自主的な努力を尊重するよう配慮しなければならない。
