      **第一項**  外国に在る日本人間で縁組をしようとするときは、その国に駐在する日本の大使、公使又は領事にその届出をすることができる。この場合においては、第七百九十九条において準用する第七百三十九条の規定及び前条の規定を準用する。

      If a Japanese national in a foreign country seeks to adopt, or to be adopted by, another Japanese national in that country, the application to register the adoption may be filed with the Japanese Ambassador, Minister of the Japanese Embassy, or Consul stationed in that country. The provisions of Article 739 as applied mutatis mutandis pursuant to Article 799 and the provisions of the preceding Article apply mutatis mutandis, in such a case.
